2 Day: Mtskheta-Jvari-Ananuri

Svetitskhoveli is the Cathedral of Mtskheta, one of the symbols of Orthodox Georgia. According to legend, it was here that king Mirian received Holy Baptism. The place for the baptism of king Mirian was not chosen by coincidence. According to the legend, here, in the ground, is hidden the Lord’s Chiton, the one about which the soldiers who crucified Christ cast lots.
Jvari-Georgian monastery and temple of the first half of the VII century. It is located on the top of a mountain at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi near Mtskheta-where, according to historical sources, the Holy equal-to-the-apostles Nina erected a cross. The first world heritage monument in Georgia (since 1994).
Ananuri fortress is a medieval defensive fortress on the Georgian Military road, located 64 km from Tbilisi. It was built on the picturesque Bank of the Zhinvali reservoir, at the place where the Aragvi river flows into it. The fortress appeared in the XVI century and for the next two centuries served as the Northern Outpost of the defense of Transcaucasia, blocking the road leading from the Daryalsky gorge.
