Haghartsin monastery rises among the majestic mountains where eagles fly, which is why its name is associated with. Haghartsin means “game of eagles”in Armenian. The most ancient structure of Agartsin is the Church of St. Grigor, built in the XI century. It was built by monks who fled from Western Armenia to escape persecution. Since the 13th century, Haghartsin has been a major center of culture and spiritual life in Armenia.
Kirants-monastery complex, built in the 13th century, is one of the most valuable architectural monuments of medieval Armenia. The complex includes the following buildings: three churches, two in the narthex, the refectory, and several of the premises is used for housing and other domestic purposes. To this day, the arched gate of the monastery, which opens to the South-West, has also been well preserved. On the territory of the Kirants monastery, an old cemetery has been preserved, where you can see the tombstone of one of the archimandrites, which is dated 1698.
Dehtsut Monastery is located in a deep forest, on the Degzut slope. From here, a panoramic view of the wooded mountains opens, and in front of it, on an uninhabited rock, lies the semi-preserved fortress of the princes of Makanaberd – the historical Berdakar. According to the style of the monuments, it can be dated to the 13th century. It consists of a main church, a garden and a second church. Remains of residential buildings, a chapel and a cemetery are located near the main buildings
