Petra was a fortified town on the eastern Black Sea coast, in Lazica in what is now western Georgia. In the 6th century, under the rule of Byzantine emperor Justinian I, it served as an important Eastern Roman outpost in the Caucasus and, due to its strategic location, became a battleground of the 541–562 Lazic War between Rome and Sasanian Persia (Iran). Mainstream scholarly opinion identifies Petra with a ruined settlement of Late Antiquity at the village of Tsikhisdziri in Adjara, southwestern Georgia.

5 DAY: MARTVILI CANYON-PROMETHEUS CAVE
Breakfast
Martvili Canyon Natural Monument is located 45 kilometers from Kutaisi in the village Inchkhuri, near Martvili. The canyon was formed by the waters of the Abasha (Abashi) River. It is 2.4 km long, and the height of the canyon walls reaches 40 m in some places. This natural landmark attracts many tourists who want to experience the contrast between the tranquil river and the dynamic waterfalls. At the beginning, Martvili Canyon is a very quiet, deep gorge with high humidity, where the rocks are covered with moss and the flow of the river is so slow that it seems as if time has stopped. In the middle of the canyon, a large 12 m waterfall suddenly appears, from which tons of water fall every second.
Prometheus cave, also known as the cave of Kumistavi, is located near the Georgian town of Tskhaltubo, 20 km from Kutaisi in Imereti region, on the West of the country. The cave was discovered in 1984 and was almost immediately developed as a show cave. Kumistavi is the biggest cave in Georgia. Although only one tenth is open for tourists, it takes about an hour to explore it. Inside there are underground lakes and rivers; high humidity and a lot of bats which, however, do not bother tourists, as they fly very high.
