Hovhannavank is a monastic complex dedicated to John the Baptist. The oldest building in the complex is a Basilica-type Church built in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator. The construction of the main Church of the monastery of Surb Karapet dates back to the XIII century. The walls of the cross-domed Church are richly decorated with bas-reliefs and ornaments. This complex is among the most significant buildings of the 13th century in terms of architectural style and solutions.
Dendropark–was founded in 1931 by the famous Polish engineer-Forester Edmond Leonovich. It is located on an area of 35 hectares, of which 17.5 are covered with natural forest, and 15 – grown ornamental plants. Visitors here can fully enjoy close communication with the fabulously beautiful nature and admire the many unusual trees. However, as a result, only about 500 species were able to adapt to the conditions of high-altitude Armenia. The picturesque green Park, resembling a magical forest, is perfect for family visits, and different seasons “decorate” the surrounding landscape in their own way.
Lori fortress–was founded in the early 11th century. The building was located at the intersection of major trade routes with several cities at once. The place was very busy and was a significant trade and craft center. In the 11-13 century, the population of the fortress reached 10,000 people. During its existence, the fortress of Lori has survived more than one attack. Several times the fortress was captured and destroyed, and then restored again. Around the 18th century, the fortress of Lori lost its military and strategic importance, after which it gradually fell into decline and became empty
The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 1846. Before the earthquake of 1988, the temple was active. The small structure is a remarkable example of neo Russian art Nouveau architecture
