Breakfast
Mtskheta was the ancient capital of Kartli, the East Georgian Kingdom from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD, and was also the location where Christianity was proclaimed as the official religion of Georgia in 337. The complex of the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in the centre of the town includes the cathedral church, the palace and the gates of the Katolikos Melchizedek that date from the 11th century, built on the site of earlier churches dating back to the 5th century. The cruciform cathedral is crowned with a high cupola over the crossing, and there are remains of important wall paintings in the interior. The rich sculpted decoration of the elevations dates from various periods over its long history.
The VI century Georgian Orthodox monastery Jvari is built on a hill opposite Mtskheta, at the confluence of Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers.. The church is included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. The small domed church of the Samtavro Monastery was originally built in the 4th century and has since been subject to various restorations. The main church of the monastery was built in the early 11th century. It contains the grave of Mirian III, the king of Iberia who established Christianity as official religion in Georgia.

3 Day: THE MONASTERY OF GELATI-BAGRAT TEMPLE-MOTSAMETA
Breakfast
The Monastery of Gelati is a masterpiece of the Golden Age of medieval Georgia, a period of political strength and economic growth between the 11th and 13th centuries. It is characterized by the facades of smoothly hewn large blocks, balanced proportions and blind arches for exterior decoration. The Gelati monastery, one of the largest medieval Orthodox monasteries, was also a centre of science and education and the Academy it housed was one of the most important centres of culture in ancient Georgia.
Bagrat Temple the greatest culture and architecture monument of Georgia, was constructed in the 10 th – 11 th centuries in the days of Bagrat III, a Georgian ruler (975-1014), the progenitor of the Bagrationi princes. In 1994 the Bagrat Temple Revival Fund was established in Kutaisi . Today the temple is in the list of the world-significant historical and cultural monuments of UNESCO.
Motsametamonastery is located 6 kilometers from Kutaisi. The present day church dates back to the 11th century, but historic records show that a church was constructed in this spot as early as the 8th century. Motsameta attracts crowds of tourists with an ancient superstition: if one crawls three times under the ark and makes a wish while touching the hallows, the wish will come true.
